Eulogy for Paul - Jonathan Lancelot

1972 April - 2020 December

To Emma and her family, you have my deepest condolences.

There is nothing in this world anyone can say to make the pain go away; it never does, nor should it. I want to share with you the impact Paul has had on me. My time spent speaking to him was short when I ventured over there to jam out with the family, everyone that loved Paul. I was privy to be a part of an artist community that Paul was a significant part of, and I felt it. Even here in the United States, where I was the furthest from the creative community, I felt Paul's presence in the creative process. Paul's positive impact on the world was not just amongst his family and friends; the world felt his positive influence. Let me explain. The day he was born into the world on April 10th, 1972, he immediately brought love, joy, and fulfillment to his Mum. There are no words for how much they loved one another, and I only imagine how much the world was better for him being in it. On the same day Paul Candiflip Blackwood was born, US President Richard Nixon and Soviet Head of State Nikolai Podgorny signed the Biological Weapons Convention, the first multilateral disarmament treaty banning the use of biological weapons by any nation-state upon another. In other words, Paul's sense of being in the way he was, anti-war, anti-racist, pro-love, pro-art, anti-death penalty, and taking care of the vulnerable and sick, I would undoubtedly say overall April 10th, 1972 was a good day for humanity.

In a world that seems to be darkening, when I think of Paul, I see one of the bright points of light, even on a day when he is not here physically with us. Therefore, I hope I have convinced you Paul has positively impacted the world around him, yet I don't think I have to do any convincing at all. Most of us have witnessed this impact on our hearts, minds, and souls. Let me go a bit further about this lovely being, the man who was a great wife to Emma, an exemplary father to his beautiful children and grandchildren, a great friend and confidant, and a silent hero to many. Paul will continue to bring more positivity, love, and light into our world. I have never been more convinced that the legacy he has left with his friends and family will continue to bring safety and happiness to those in this world that need it the most. I love Paul; he was the pure artist we all wish we could be, the best human being we want to be. This is a man that has inspired us in the past, and he should inspire us now. Paul's story is a heartwarming story of a loved and nurtured boy who persevered when he met the most riveting of challenges in school. Then he became a man who was an innovator yet did not seek the limelight. His genius was evident, yet his heart was what he showed for it. His ethics as an artist was rare; he was opposed to stealing from other artists; this places him amongst the top. Paul was just excellent. He is still excellent!

To all my family in London, and that is all of you reading or hearing this, we are in collective sorrow for Paul's physical loss, and we will always feel that loss. The emptiness we will feel for the rest of our lives is human. We are not strange for feeling this way or crying at random times when our heart reminds us of how much we miss him. It's the worst when we try to block our sadness, so don't. This how we will communicate and guide our loved one into the light from whence he came, and he will continue to shine the positive vibes and happiness back in our lives and into this world again forevermore.

One Brother to Another,
Jonathan Lancelot
